OOC - SR3 Simplified Decking Rules

These are the simplified rules I use with decker player characters. 

The base rules are from the Shadowrun 3^rd edition book, as well as the Matrix and Target: Matrix sourcebooks. Where the rules do not conflict, the rules from these base books should be used.

Layout of the matrix

In almost every situation, an LTG flows smoothly into a RTG, or another LTG. Only truly restrictive, or paranoid, countries would restrict access to a LTG or RTG. Once a decker accesses a public RTG or LTG, they should be able to move through the matrix without difficulties.

Accessing most RTGs and LTGs can be done wirelessly with a cellular link. No decking checks are needed with accessing an RTG or LTG when using a legit account. Checks are only needed if the decker is attempting to bypass the logon process.

Accessing the matrix.

All around us are wireless signals, flying through the air. These can be accessed by any decker using a radio link. These connections connect to a host and must be accessed as if using a jackpoint connected to that host. These wireless signals have a limited range, which may be tens of feet to as much as several hundred feet of range.

Sometimes, valuable information will be stored in hosts not accessible by wireless signals. Very paranoid governments or corporations will only have basic, freely available information stored in their wireless hosts. More secure servers are hard lined, with fiber optic cables. These may only be accessed by terminal hosts or jack points within that host's facility.

June 18, 2062 = Renton, A pack of gargoyles was reported south of highway 90 and east of Tradition Lake. Authorities advise not traveling alone and keeping all pets inside as much as possible.

June 19, 2062 = Tir Tairngire, With no explanation, Aithne Oakforest announced that he is retiring from the Tir Tairngire Council of Princes.

June 20, 2062 =Downtown, Lone Star is seeking a suspect in a near fatal stabbing of a sixty-five year old man. The woman who stabbed him is 5'4", white, approximately thirty years old, black hair with purple highlights.

June 21, 2062 = Downtown, Estela Arrington, lead singer for the band Expanding Amnesia, died this afternoon due to a drug oversode.

June 22, 2062 = Renton, Darnell Delgado was arrested this morning for practicing medicine without a license. Delgado, a former nurse, was reportedly running a so-called "black clinic" catering to criminals. Residents of the neighborhood stated that he was only helping those who were unable to afford medical care elsewhere.

June 23, 2062 = Bellevue, A tree knocked over by winds blocked a busy onramp onto highway 405. Traffic was backed up for hours as crews cleared the tree.

June 24, 2062 = Tacoma, Hugh Beasley, an amateur rigger, was arrested after he electronically took over several delivery drones and rerouted them to drop off packages at his home. Lone Star was able to track the drones to the suspects house after several delivery companies reported the intrusion into their wireless networks.

June 25, 2062 = Downtown, A man was fatally shot outside of the Cutting Edge strip club at 2am this morning. The victim was identified as thirty-four year old Homer Traves. Lone Star is seeking suspects.

June 26, 2062 = Bellevue, A missing twelve-year old Melania Quigg was spotted getting into a sliver and blue Bugatti Veyron while walking home from school. Melania's parents are offering a 5,000¥ for information leading to their daughters safe return.

June 27, 2062 = Renton, Six members of the Ruby Skeletons gang were killed by Lone Star officers in a violent confrontation outside of a Stuffer Shack.

June 28, 2062 = Downtown, Lone Star has issued a warning for street vendors about multiple attacks that have taken place. A small gang of humans and orks have been attacking street vendors and stealing their food. No major injuries have been reported.

June 29, 2062 = Everett, Suspected child abuser, Debora Way, escaped from Lone Star custody. Way was arrested for child abuse and human trafficking charges. Lone Star warns that Way is armed, dangerous, and has extensive illegal cyberware modifications.

June 30, 2062 =Snohomish, Four people were found dead in a gated community in Mountlake Terrace. Lone Star believes the assailants were allowed into the home before they shot and killed the residents. Lone Star reported having suspects, but is not releasing information about them at this time.

June 3, 2062 = Tacoma, An increase in magical related crimes in Tacoma has prompted Lone Star to increase hiring of magically active patrol officers there.

June 4, 2062 = Downtown, Mosi Todaro was arrested after driving through a parking lost at 35mph and striking several pedestrians. Todaro claimed he was trying to "escape from demons who were trying to steal his soul."

June 5, 2062 = Bellevue, Aneliya Ardelean was charged with two counts of homicide after breaking into he neighbors apartment and shooting both residents, James and Sue Das, multiple times. Ardelean claims to have been involved in an affair with James Das.

June 6, 2062 = Everett, Two men were arrested after a high speed chase on I5. Chandler Sanders and Mark Sylvestre were fleeing police after an alleged burglary.

June 7, 2062 = Renton, DMV employee, Talita Mirsolav, was arrested for identity theft after she stole hundreds of Renton residents SINs and sold them on the matrix.

June 8, 2062 = Snohomish, Groups of eco-activists protested the opening of a new G. Meyers Agriculture facility. The activists claim that G. Meyers is adding a mind control agent to the plants they are growing there.

June 9, 2062 = Tir Tairngire, In a shocking move, the dragon Lofwyr has announced that he will be retiring from the Tir Tairngire Council of Princes. Lofwyr's assistants claim he needs more time to focus on running Saeder-Krupp.

June 10, 2062 = Auburn, A Lone Star officer was arrested on extortion charges after threatening a local business owner with arrest if he didn't pay an undisclosed amount to the officer. The officers name has not been disclosed to the public.

June 11, 2062 = Redmond, A taxi driver, Natalie Pacido, was arrested near the Bellevue border in a Lone Star sting operation. Lone Star discovered four kilograms of heroin hidden inside Pacido's taxi.

June 12, 2062 = Tacoma, A unidentified man drove his white Ford Americar into the front door of the Frisky Business Boutique, an adult novelty shop. He then grabbed as much of the novelties and lingerie as he could and sped off. Lone Star is seeking suspects.

June 13, 2062 = Renton, A woman was arrested for a DUI after driving erratically and nearly hitting a parked car. The woman was identified as Prudence Hurst, an employee of Renton's Liquor and Cannabis Board.

June 14, 2062 = Downtown, Mitsuhama reported three deaths on their property just after midnight. The victims were suspected shadowrunners.

June 15, 2062 = Downtown, Mei Seong was arrested for extortion and impersonating an officer. Seong rented a Lone Star uniform from a costume shop and tried to extort pedestrians for bribes to avoid "arrest".

May 30, 2062 = Tacoma, The Tacoma bridge collapsed at 3:26 AM. A series of explosions destroyed  portions of its supports. Several casualties are been reported and there are dozens of injured as well.

May 31, 2062 = Redmond, A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead and another victim was in critical condition following an early morning double shooting in the Kingsgate neighborhood.

June 1, 2062 =Downtown, Five teens have been charged for their alleged roles in an armed carjacking early Thursday. Lone Star has not released the names of those arrested, due to them being minors.

June 2, 2062 =  Downtown, An argument between people in two cars last night in Kent, led to one car hitting a man who had been a passenger in the other car, killing him. 38 year old Auxano Gonzalez was arrested.

May 27, 2062 = Downtown, A fire on the monorail tracks in Downtown delayed multiple trains for several hours. Lone Star believes the fire was intentional.

May 28, 2062 = Downtown, A group of suspected shadowrunners were geeked by Aztechnology security forces right outside of Aztechnologies main office Pyramid.

May 29, 2062 = Renton, Lone Star made a major kamikaze bust with Triad ties.
Tacoma, An illegal gambling and sex den with Triad ties was broken up near the Puyallup border by Lone Star. Twenty-eight children and two adults, victims of sexual abuse and human trafficking, were rescued.

May 18, 2062 = Tacoma, A string of car thefts near the Puyallup border, has Lone Star increasing patrols in the area.

May 19, 2062 = Downtown, Carl Echols led Lone Star on a seven mile car and two mile foot chase, after stealing a car from the municipal courthouse.

May 20, 2062 = Renton, Four men were shot outside a house party during a drive by shooting. Lone Star is seeking 32 year old Hannah Leone in connection with the shooting.

May 21, 2062 = Auburn, Two men, Anthony and Brandon Jones, were arrested after a fire ripped through their grandmother's house in the early morning. Their grandmother was not home at the time, but the two men have been charged with attempted murder.

May 22, 2062 = Downtown, Neil Scott, a 27 year old computer programmer, was shot and killed this morning while driving home from work. Lone Star is seeking suspects.

May 23, 2062 = Bellevue, A missing fifteen year old Bellevue girl was found after her kidnapper was arrested at the Seattle/Salish-Shidhe border. Prosecutors are charging 43 year old Bao Chang with human trafficking.

May 24, 2062 = Tacoma, An unidentified Troll robbed a Stuffer Shack in broad daylight. Even though the man was caught on camera, Lone Star is having trouble tracking down the SINless man.

May 25, 2062 = Downtown, Ludwin Barreno, Lone Star liason with Downtown Mayor Catherine DeBurke, plead guilty this morning to patronizing a prostitute.

May 26, 2062 = Everett, Violence erupted near midnight as explosions rocked a normally quiet neighborhood. The target appeared to be Bernard Corbitt, a middle aged Mitsuhama office worker. Corbitt also owned and ran a small importing business. Corbitt was reported by his neighbors as a nice guy who often shared vegetables from his garden with them.
